However, the long hours did not lessen Sheppard’s love of what she said is the best time of the year in Lancaster. Shaun Neal said Madeline was the artist in the family and it was nice to see her exhibit her abilities in public. Madeline chose to create a spooky image of one of her favorite ROBLOX characters and Emily drew her blue soccer jersey, complete with her nickname, Lil’ Shaun, after her father, on the back. Their father, Shaun Neal, registered two small squares for them to chalk whatever they wanted. Sisters, Madeline, 11, and Emily, 8, Neal, enjoyed participating together as well. They said the entire event is more enjoyable with people by your side, and creating something together makes it that much more special. Utilizing two, large slabs of sidewalk side-by-side, the McIntires planned to create a combined work of art, consisting of koi fish and lily pads. “I was on top of it this year and got two big and two small squares.” I was like ‘You’re kidding me,’ Christine McIntire said. “(This year) I called, left a message and I called back again because we couldn’t get big squares one year and it was only like two days after (registration) opened. Lancaster residents, Christine and Jessica McIntire, are also a mother-daughter pair who have experience as Art Walk participants and, without hesitation, registered for the event again this year. People actually see it, which with art, a lot of the time, you do it at your home and nobody ever sees that.” “I don’t feel like you get too many opportunities to do whatever you want, but they can come here and do anything that they’ve thought about. “This at least got them out of the house in the summer and really let them do their thing,” Delong said. Mary DeLong, a Duncan Falls resident, participated in the Art Walk this year for the second time, along with her daughter, Brooke Wallace, and her daughter’s friend. Others started participating in the Art Walk for the activity itself, rather than an exceptional love of chalk art. “At my grandma’s house, she has a cement slab in front, and I’ll (chalk) it, and then I do it inside our garage on cinder block.” Chalk art is not a new medium for Stump, as she has participated in the Art Walk three times and constantly chalks at home. Laurelville resident, Olivia Stump, was one of the latter artists she brought her mother with her for support, and to act as an occasional assistant as she worked on finishing a pink lotus flower and lily pads. Many of those who were working on their drawings had brought friends and family with them to either participate or to keep themselves, as the artists, entertained during the hours-long process. Offered as a Lancaster Festival activity, street painting prompted dozens of adults and children to include their talents in this year’s Art Walk.
